Alden Downing, born in New York City, was raised in southern Ohio where her happiest memories are of summers spent on her grandparents’ farm. While Ohio will always be home, moving West has been a dream of hers. She attended Ohio University, during which time she worked as an intern for WCPO news in Cincinnati and sailed around the world with the Semester at Sea program.
“I have always loved writing,” Alden says, “but the experience of circumnavigating the globe was a watershed experience of my education. It made me aware of how much there is that I don’t know. I think that is an invaluable realization for anyone entering the field of journalism.”
Her family continues to be a constant source of support, inspiration and determination.
