Meteorologist Tim Lankford

By Nikolas Asmussen

Meteorologist Tim Lankford has worn many hats: “student” newspaper columnist, radio announcer, and human resources clerk among others; but weather is his first passion. He recently graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Meteorology from Mississippi State University and quickly headed to Big Sky country! “I had never been ‘out west’ so the decision to join News Channel 5 was an easy one!”

Tim grew up in southern Illinois, and after a short stint at Murray State University, moved to the warm, sunny environs of Houston, Texas. While in Houston, he experienced Mother Nature’s fury during tropical weather season when Houston was struck by two minor tropical systems, Charlie and Fran in 1997, and one major tropical storm, Allison (the first tropical storm to have its name retired) in 2001. Soon after moving to Mississippi in 2005, to follow his passion, that state’s gulf coast was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina, the center of which passed very nearly over the Mississippi State campus. Tim says his biggest regret is not chasing the destructive Hurricane Ike, which heavily damaged the Galveston and Houston areas in September 2008.

Tim looks forward to waking up early and providing your first look at Great Falls’ and Montana’s ever changing weather conditions. Look for him weekday mornings during Good Morning America!
