Meteorologist Steve Newton

By Bruce Moore

Steve Newton is a military kid, moving to the Seattle Area when he was 2 years old. Living in the Pacific Northwest the majority of his life, he's used to microclimates and the complexities in forecasting them.

Steve graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor's in Atmospheric Sciences and minor in Applied Mathematics, the latter of which he earned during his study abroad in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. He is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. Before getting the call to join the KFBB team, he worked at Olympic College in Bremerton, Washington doing sports for their online newscasts and writing the occasional column for The Olympian newspaper.

Steve's passion for the weather came from seeing meteorologists never get the forecasts right. He went to UW with the intent of becoming a hurricane hunter, but decided broadcasting was the job for him less than 30 minutes into the first day of his internship at KOMO 4, the ABC affiliate in Seattle, in 2008.

When not learning as much as he can about broadcasting at the studio, Steve can be found around the Electric City doing a myriad of things. These include exploring the Treasure State, bowling, working out, golfing (terribly), and working on one of his many screenplays.
