5. Outreach Activities:

Max Media of Montana participated in 2 Outreach Activities during the period March 7 to November 30, 2003.  These are detailed on the following pages.
#1 Year: 2003                          Name of Activity:  The 2003 U of M Big Sky Career Fair

Description of Initiative:

On Wednesday October 1 2003, Max Media of Montana attended the 2003 University of Montana Big Sky Career Fair. The fair hours were from 9:00 am � 3:00 pm held at the University Center 3^rd Floor on the campus of the University of Montana. The fair is geared to give university students the opportunity to learn more about the different employers and fields of employment available in the surrounding area. Students have the opportunity to approach the various employment booths to ask questions about their organizations and industries, inquire about current openings, and exchange information about one another.

Max Media sent two representatives: Melissa Mooney, National Sales Manager and Clay Meissner, Business/Human Resources Manager to attend the booth. The Max Media booth consisted of informational brochures on the history of the company, as well as information on what jobs are available within the television industry, applications for employment, postings of current openings with the company, internship questionnaires for any students interested in fall and spring internships.

A tally performed at the fair indicated that over 75 students visited the Max Media booth to learn more about the company and the industry.  Several applications were filled out as well as resumes accepted for current openings. Many of the students were very inquisitive about the industry and company. 

Max Media has also learned of two new recruiting opportunities through the University: Griz eRecruiting, the universities web based career management recruiting system and the Career Services internship program through the university. Max Media will take steps in the coming year to utilize both of these resources available to recruit quality women and minority employees.

#2 Year: 2003                          Name of Activity: The 2003 Assistance For Business Clinic

Description of Initiative:

On Wednesday, May 7, 2003, Max Media of Montana attended the 2003 Assistance for Business Clinic. The Clinic�s hours were from 8:00 am � 5:00 pm and held at the conference room at the Double Tree Hotel. The clinic is an informational presentation by several governing bodies of the state of Montana to help assist local businesses in the surrounding area in such aspects as equal opportunity employment, wage and hour laws, unemployment insurance, workers compensation and small business assistance programs. There were presentations by: The Department of Commerce, Job Service, Department of Revenue, and the Department of Labor and Industry.  The clinic consisted of one-hour presentations on important issues in each area as well as handouts of several informational packets in each area.

Max Media sent one representatives: Clay Meissner, Business/Human Resources Manager to attend the clinic. 

Of particular interest to Max Media was the presentation by the Department of Labor and Industry, Employment Relations Division on the rules and guidelines that all businesses must follow to be an equal opportunity employer. The presentation covered such topics as: nondiscrimination hiring practices, maternity, sexual harassment, religion, grievance procedures and equal pay policies. A brochure for the �Model Equal Employment Opportunity Policy� as well as a guide to employment discrimination was handed out to all attending individuals.

In summary, the 2003 Assistance for Business Clinic was a very informative and excellent opportunity to learn many of the Montana laws regarding Equal Opportunity within the state. Due to the massive amount of information presented at the clinic, this is something that Max Media plans to attend again in the coming years.
