Wind Turbine Set To Go Up at CMR High School

By KFBB News Team

C.M. Russell High School will have a wind turbine up and running on campus this Friday. This comes nearly two years after the school bought the 60 foot tower with a federal grant. Students spent time fixing the wiring on the tower on Wednesday so it doesn't blow over in strong winds. Students will learn about the wind turbine through their science classes. Mark Yaeger from the Industrial Technology Department says "one of the big things is wind technicians and wind turbine technology around town. There aren't people who are trained for it, so these guys are going to get a little heads up before they can go on to college and get some extra training." For now, the power generated from the wind turbine will be used to heat the welding shop on campus. In the future, it could help the school cut back on energy consumption.
