The study, conducted by Education Northwest, identified 13 policies related to Indian education between 1991 and 2008. It found that Montana was the only one of five states in the region to have adopted all of them

Some of the policies include adopting academic standards to teach students about Indian history and culture, promoting Indian languages and providing scholarships for college-bound Indian students.

In addition, Montana is the only state to have established targeted funding for Indian education under the Indian Education for All Act.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Denise Juneau, says the report demonstrates Montana's landmark progress, and that the policies help guarantee all Montana students receive a quality education.

The treasure state is home to seven Indian reservations and 12 tribal groups, and six percent of the state's population are American Indian.
