Man Charged With Animal Cruelty, Drug Charges

By KFBB News Team

It's the largest rescue effort in the Lewis and Clark Humane Society's history.

Authorities have recovered 140 malamute dogs, 10 of which are pregnant and 20 puppies from the property of Mike Chilinski of Jefferson County.

Now the humane society needs your help with expenses for the dogs.

Gina Wies, Director of Lewis and Clark Humane Society, says, "This is going to be a pretty expensive proposition. And the Humane Society of the United States has stepped up to the plate and has made a very generous donation for us to use for supplies and employees and what not. But this could go on for a long time. If we're lucky and he released the dogs, then that would be great. If not then we're looking at months."

Apparently that's not all Chilinski was hoarding.

Officials also found more than 200 marijuana plants.

He was arrested on Wednesday and now facing charges of cruelty to animals and production of dangerous drugs.

To help the humane society, call 442-1660.

It is a shame that having the pot is a more serious offense than treating the dogs (a living thing)poorly.Goes to show how backwards we still are when it comes to our priorities.I will be sending in some money for sure.

I Would BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO SEND 25.00 as my income barely gets me buy,but some of my best friends had 4 feet. And were always there and very forgiving. To bad people can be the same!

All of us at the HSUS are very grateful to the Lewis and Clark Humane Society and PetSmart Charities. We're very glad that these dogs are currently receiving the attention and care that they deserve.
