Water Fowl Bring in Spring

By KFBB News Team

Migratory birds flock to Gibson Park year round but today (April 18th), Great Falls residents gathered and gandered as a gaggle of domesticated geese and other birds were released for the spring. Every year, domestic birds at the park are rounded up for a winter stay at what Great Falls city park workers have nick-named “the Honker Hilton”. They were cared for everyday during the winter and feed with lettuce donated by 2Js, but with temperatures rising, it's time for the 70 birds to once again waddled into the park's waters. Parks maintenance supervisor, Giles Salyer said, “they are in our winter quarters over the winter and we have to let them out at a certain time of year and about now is when we do it and there in a big hurry to get out. this is the launch of spring.” The domesticated trumpeter swans, Chinese geese and mallard ducks join the wild birds at the park. We’re told that there can be as many as one thousand birds there during the summer months.
