A Lucrative Steel: Recycling Metal

Since the beginning of the year, prices of steel have hit an all time high and some people are taking advantage of it. Thousands of tons of recycled goods are brought in to Pacific Steel and Recycling in Great Falls each week. But it's more than just pop cans and newspapers. In the past few weeks, a lot of unusual things have been recycled. Everything from school busses to boats to tractors to washing machines; if it's made of metal, they'll take it. Right now, they are paying about 70 dollars a ton, so the shell of school bus is worth about 400 bucks. Prices aren't expected to drop anytime soon. According to Steve Smith of Pacific Steel and Recycling, "The demand for metals in the world has grown in the last five years and will continue to grow.” You can bring in any amount of recyclable goods, there's no minimum or maximum. In fact we're told some people bring things in just about everyday to put a little more cash in their pockets.
