2011 Miss Rodeo and Miss Teen Rodeo Montana Crowned

"It's a dream come true, I have been working for it since I was a little girl..."

By Chase Moffitt

Today is the last day of the Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals here in Great Falls. But for the ladies of "The Miss Rodeo" and "Miss Teen Rodeo Montana" it's their biggest day. Newschannel5's Chase Moffitt was there for the crowning of this year's queens and has more.

As Great Falls plays host to the Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals, crowds are dazzled by the dare devils riding bulls, the skill of the ropers and the high energy rodeo is known for. But during this morning's Miss Rodeo Montana Pageant Coronation, you could sense that same energy.

Anxious moments for these Miss Rodeo and Miss Teen Rodeo Montana contestants, this year featured two Miss Rodeo contestants and six Miss Teen Rodeo Contestants. Amy Hager says, "It's a dream come true, I have been working for it since I was a little girl, I remember sitting on the fence for some rodeo's and thinking I want to be that girl." Lorissa Harris says, "It’s actually been in the making, I was the Miss Teen Rodeo in 2007, so back four years later to run for the big crown."

This year's competition included judged categories in speech, horsemanship, personality, appearance and projection and presentation, with each girl saying horsemanship is important. Lorissa Harris says, "My favorite probably the style show this year, it's usually not my number one, I don't like modeling that much, but it was really fun this year." Amy Hager says, "The hardest one's always horsemanship because you never know what you're going to get, you don't know, you draw horses just like the cowboys do at rodeo, never know what horse you are going to get, it could be fast or slow and you only get 3 minutes to warm them up."

Both have advice for future Miss Teen and Miss Rodeo Montana hopefuls. Hager says, "don't follow your dreams, have goals, have goals and make life what you can, follow your hear, know in your hear what you want and follow that." Harris says, "Study hard, you need to know current events, rodeo knowledge, rule book knowledge you need to know anything that encompasses rodeo or horse, work hard and appreciate anything you do because you know it only happens once in a lifetime."

Now both ladies tell me being crowned Miss Rodeo Montana doesn't stop today, in fact it’s just starting. Lorissa Harris says she wants to travel out of state to represent Montana and for Amy Hager; she's ready to graduate high school and represent the crown throughout the state.
