Montana Officials Hail Overturning of Handgun Ban

Thursday's (6/26) Supreme Court ruling overturning a 32-year-old ban on handguns in Washington D.C. was hailed by Montana officials.

Speaking on the steps of the Supreme Court, Senator Jon Tester called the decision "one heckuva victory for gun rights."

"This is a great day for the country, for the Constitution, and for the people to affirm the fact that we have the right to keep and bear arms," said Tester. "I'm very proud of the Court. I think they made the right decision."

Montana Attorney General Mike McGrath also supports the ruling.

"Its very clear now that people in Montana and around the United States have an individual right to own weapons and bear arms," said McGrath. "We think that is a good thing."

The narrow 5-4 decision was the first major ruling on gun rights in U.S. history.
