Tester Pushing to Make Wild Horse a 24-Hour Port

The port of Wild Horse was again a popular talking point Wednesday (7/2) during Senator Jon Tester's (D-MT) Senate Panel Field Hearing on Northern Border security in Havre.

In November 2007, Tester introduced legislation in the Senate to make the port, located 45 miles Northwest of Havre, the state's second 24-hour port of entry on the Canadian border.

During testimony Wednesday the Director of Seattle Field Operations for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Michele James, said the number of vehicles crossing the border at Wild Horse do not support expansion.

But Tester says trade with Alberta, Canada is booming and the new 24-hour port would make shipments across the border easier.

"They've got some information that to me seems to justify that port being open for 24-hours," said Tester. "Now we just need to convince about 98 other people in the Senate that we need this to be done."
