New Island in Fairgrounds Duck Pond

Spending time at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds will be a little more enjoyable and interesting thanks to a new addition. The pond now has a floating island.

Plants on the new "bio haven" island provide microbes that will remove pollutants from the stagnating water. A new water mill will better circulate the water which will help the bad smell.

Senator Max Baucus says, "I thought, gee, why not do this at home? And also, there's a pond out there. Let's get this cleaned up. So just as I was able to fish when I was a kid, let kids now fish once it's all cleaned up."

Waterfowl waste is to blame for the poor condition of the pond. But the new island should allow ducks and geese to continue using the pond.

More than 3-thousand similar bio havens are floating in bodies of water around the world.
