A wildfire near Townsend, southeast of Helena, has burned more than 700 acres since yesterday. The Bear Gulch Fire started on private land, but then spread to the Helena National Forest.

Dave Nunn, incident commander, says 35 mph winds grounded helicopters from dropping water in the afternoon (08/19). He's also concerned about the safety of firefighters on the ground due to the treacherous winds.

The fire is about 10 percent contained late today (08/19) and no structures are in immediate danger.
