Though it's several months from completion, members of the media got a first look at the inside of the Missouri River Courthouse being built in Great Falls Wednesday (August 20th, 2008). Construction on the new federal courthouse began July 10th last year. About 30 people spend their days working on the new building that will house 2 federal judges. Right now those judges work on the top floor of the post office, as judges have for the last 100 years. Court officials say they've outgrown the space. Patrick Duffy, Clerk of Court for the US District Court in Montana said "The US Marshals and the US Probation are not presently in the courthouse on the other side of the river...now the whole court family will be together." We’re also told the new courthouse will have more security. The first floor of the three-story building will house the probation department, Clerk of Court and offer some garage parking. The second floor will be for the US Marshals and holding cells. The top floor will have two courtrooms and the judges’ chambers. Sletten construction is building it and BC development is leasing the property to the government's general services administration. They’re hoping to have it ready by May.
