Smoking Ban To Take Effect in One Year

Tools

By KFBB News Team

One year from today (9/1), the smoke will clear from many local bars and casinos. On October 1st, 2009 it will be illegal to smoke indoors at bars and restaurants in our state. The Montana Legislature passed the Clean Indoor Act in 2005. It prohibits use of all tobacco products in public schools and most enclosed public places across the state. The law does not apply to Montana’s Indian Reservations. Some are worried many smaller bars and restaurants could lose business because of the new law. Others are calling it unconstitutional. But eleven states already have laws in effect requiring work places, restaurants and bars to be totally smoke-free citing health concerns.
