The City-County Health Department is offering free mammograms and pap smears to low income women, to help in the fight against breast and cervical cancer. This is the 12th year the Health Department is offering the free service. It's all part of a national program that is paid for by the CDC. Each year, around 500 women in Great Falls take part in the program. The Health Department says cancer is treated best when detected early. Karen Grindeland, a Health Educator says "The montana breast and cervical health program will help women 40 to 64 for mammograms and 30 to 64 for pap smears. We will cover the office visit for the exam and we'll pay for the mammogram and any diagnostic testing to take them to diagnosis." The program is geared towards local women who are uninsured or underinsured. To find out if you or someone you know qualifies for the program, go to www.cancer.mt.gov or call 1-888-803-9343.
