At a press conference in Washington Wednesday (10/12), Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) unveiled a plan he says will create a path to affordable health care for all Americans.

The Senator recently wrapped up a ten-stop listening tour around Montana to gather ideas from the public.

Universal health care was a campaign pledge by President-elect Barack Obama, and Baucus isn't waiting for Inauguration Day to bring the issue to the forefront. Wednesday, he unveiled an 89-page health care reform blueprint that he says will make sure every American is covered within 10 years.

Baucus' plan would initially impose a mandate on individuals and large employers to participate in the system. It would also expand Medicare, Medicaid, and the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).

His plan would also allow people aged 55-64 to participate in Medicare and prevent insurers from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions.
