By KFBB News Team

A single-family home just outside Great Falls was destroyed in an early morning fire.

The Sand Coulee Volunteer Fire Department says no one was home at the time, but a dog and some pet birds perished in the fire. Great Falls Fire Rescue initially responded to the call at about 3:30 a.m., Saturday (5/23), but they then discovered the home at 1500 7th Street South was actually in the Sand Coulee Volunteer Fire District.

Sand Coulee then took over firefighting duties with the assistance of Black Eagle and Gore Hill. They eventually extinguished the blaze at around 6:30 a.m., but say the home was a total loss.
