A convicted sex offender suspected of peering under a dressing room door and stealing a woman’s purse in Helena has been arrested.

Missoula police arrested 35-year old Jesse William Kirk on Wednesday on a felony arrest warrant out of Helena. Kirk was convicted of assault with intent to commit rape in California in 1999, and was last registered as a sex offender in Idaho.

He was recently released from prison in Idaho on June 1st. Missoula police claim that, while in Missoula, Kirk snuck into a tanning salon to spy on a woman in a tanning booth, and later followed her into the parking lot.

Officers arrested Kirk after noticing his pickup truck outside a chain of businesses. Kirk resisted arrest and an officer stunned him with a Taser.

Kirk spent time in Helena last week, where he allegedly entered a Ross Dress for Less department store and peered under a fitting room door to watch a woman change clothes. On the same day, he supposedly entered the Planet Beach Contempo Spa from a back door entrance, and stole a purse from an office employee.

Missoula police say they do not intend to charge Kirk with any felony offenses, and he will likely be transported back to Lewis & Clark County.
