Electric City Amateur Radio Club Has a Field Day

Members of the Electric City Amateur Radio Club spoke with other radio enthusiast from around the nation and Canada this weekend. The club will be held their annual field day event at Heritage Park from noon yesterday through noon today (6/28). More than 35,000 amateur radio operators called "hams," showed off their wireless capabilities. Erecting radio stations in the community parks was for more than just fun however. They were practicing emergency communications abilities. Amateur radio operators are often the first to provide information and observations to responders in crisis situations. There are more than 660,000 amateur radio operators in the US, and 2.5 million around the world.
