Update: Fire that Destroyed Fireworks Booth in Havre Appears to be Intentional

Officials are now saying it appears the fire that destroyed the Jaycees fireworks booth in Havre was started on purpose.

The Havre Fire Department led the initial investigation, determining the fire was suspicious in nature. The investigation was then turned over to the Hill County Sheriff's Office, where it was determined that the fire was most likely an intentional act of arson.

The fire destroyed the entire fireworks stand and its contents, which are sold to pay for the city's annual Independence Day celebration. Members of the community have been helping with donations of cash and other materials, and the show is scheduled to go on as planned.

A complete investigation is currently underway, and anyone with information regarding the fire is urged to contact the Hill County Sheriff's Office at 265-2512, Ext. 2100.
