Thousands of area residents gathered in downtown Great Falls today, for the annual 4th of July Parade. The parade kicked-off at the Civic Center, heading east on 1st Avenue South. It concluded with a trip down Central Avenue.

Organizers say they handed-out more than 6,000 American flags for the event, marking the 125th birthday of the city, and the 233rd of the nation.

More than 80 floats or vehicles participated in the festivities. Many organizations gave candy to children. Even News Channel 5 joined-in on the celebration.

A dozen Maters of Ceremony were on hand, all were veterans.

"It means so much," said National Guardsman Dustin Baxter. "Especially when you serve your country and travel to other places, you realize how lucky were are here. I can't think of a better place to be than the United States of America.
