Gore Hill Firefighters Express Sympathy For Victim and Her Family in Hit-and-Run Death

By KFBB News Team

The 4th of July is supposed to be a day to celebrate America's Independence. But today a local fire department is instead dealing with the arrest of their chief after a hit-and-run accident that killed 21-year-old Sasha Holt, early Wednesday.

More than 300 people attended the Gore Hill Fire Department's Barbecue, but one notable member was absent. Thirty-eight-year-old Jason Caughey turned himself into authorities last night.

Holt was killed while walking on Fox Farm Road after attending a party. Caughey was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident as is being held on $200,000 bond. Authorities searched his home last night, and additional charges could still be filed.

Caughey has been a firefighter for 10 years, the last six as the Department's Chief. He has also served as a reserve deputy for the Cascade County Sheriff's Office and is an instructor at the MSU Training Service.

Today, members of the Department expressed their sympathies for the family of Sasha Holt.
