Speeding on Gravel Roads Proves Dangerous

The Montana Highway Patrol says a teenage girl rolled her SUV this morning (7/5) while speeding down a gravel road south of Great Falls. The 18-year-old was driving westbound on Ross Road at 9:30AM. Troopers believe she was driving about 45 miles per hour when she went over the top of a hill, lost control, flipped the vehicle and landed in the ditch. Though there is no posted speed limit on the gravel roadway. Legally she could drive up to 70 miles per hour but troopers say she was going too fast for the road conditions. Trooper Phil Freed of the Montana Highway Patrol said, “The gravel conditions are a lot different than the paved conditions obviously. Loose gravel will cause your tires to spin… and that was the case in this point here." The girl sustained cuts to her face and neck and was taken to the hospital but is expected to be just fine.
