A Great Falls man is in jail tonight (7/6) charged with killing a woman by giving her his prescription drugs. David Beverly is facing several charges including distribution of dangerous drugs, witness tampering and negligent homicide. Police say he gave methadone pills to Kala Madson. She died last month after over dosing on the powerful drug. Police traced a number on her cell phone to Beverly- -and when police questioned his roommate he said he saw Beverly selling drugs to the victim. Beverly is no stranger to the Great Falls Police Department. Last year he was caught selling to three people and warned that if someone died he would be charged with negligent homicide. Cascade County Attorney John Parker believes overdose deaths are a significant problem in our area. He said, "People are dying. If people don't have Rx and they are taking a drug they shouldn't be taking then they die- that's a loss to our community and so we need to raise awareness all through Cascade County so people are aware that there are risks." During the investigation Beverly sold drugs including methadone to uncover informants. Beverly denies giving the drugs to the deceased but will formerly enter his plea in about two weeks.
