Diamond Thief Learns Sentence

By KFBB News Team

A diamond thief who stole nearly $11,000 worth of jewelry from JC Penny's in Great Falls will serve a 10-year sentence for the crime. Aaron Monroe stole six diamond rings from the department store back in January while working as part of the store's over-night cleaning crew. He appeared via videoconference from the Montana State Prison and told the judge, “I know what I did was wrong.” At the time of the crime he was on parole for negligent vehicular homicide. That stems from back in 2005 when he was driving drunk and crashed, killing the passenger. Five years of this new ten-year sentence will be suspended.

Not saying what he did was right, but someone on the afternoon shift should be questioned as well. When I worked for JCP (Great Falls) we had to take ALL of the jewelery from the case, check numbers and lock it in a safe before we left every night, why has no one questioned why these were not in the safe?
