The communities of Fort Benton, Geraldine, Big Sandy and Highwood came together this weekend for their end of summer celebration. It's the biggest event of the year in Fort Benton and more then five thousand people filter through the fair ground gates to take part. The fun began on Friday (8/14) but today (8/16), the last day of the fair, there was still plenty to do. It's the 97th year of the county fair and while traditions like the culinary and art competitions remain much the same, there's something new every year. This year the Aussie Kingdom featuring the animals of Australia were a major draw. Laurie McCullough, Chairman of the Fair Board said, “Kids don't get to see that everyday.” But the nightly shows are what draw the big crowds including pig-wrestling Friday, the rodeo on Saturday and the Demolition Derby on Sunday. This mix of old and new will keep the crowds coming for many more years to come.
