High Speed Chase Starts In Great Falls

By KFBB News Team

A man is in custody after several Montana agencies became involved in a high speed chase.
Daniel Baker from Lincoln, age 41, was booked into the Cascade County jail around 8 tonight (8/17).
The Great Falls Police, Cascade County, Montana Highway Patrol, Fish, Wildlife and Parks, and even Customs Border Patrol chased down Baker, after he led the agencies on a high speed chase lasting over two hours.
The chase began around 5 p.m. in the 14-hundred block of 3rd Avenue NW, and ended after 7 p.m. in a farmer's field about 6 miles out of Fort Shaw.
This all began when Baker allegedly stole two horse saddles from two other out of towners (from Browning)...it's unknown why they were all in Great Falls.
baker ran into one vehicle before police were called, however during the high speed chase there were no injuries and no other damaged property.
Baker has two prior theft warrants out of Flathead and Lewis and Clark County, and faces a new string of traffic charges, as well as the charges for the stolen saddles.

What's worse, a guy that stole 2 saddles gets away, or a child is killed due to a high speed chase through town? I don't understand why cops insist on chasing these guys. Can't someone follow them in an unmarked car until they're safely out of the way of pedestrians or other oncoming vehicles? There's got to be a better way!

i am glad no children were out playing when the chase started. several small youngsters live in the neighborhood and go across streets to play at a friend's all the time. it surprised me that all the officers on duty must have been after this person because the guy that had his vehicle run into sat for over two hours because an officer couldn't come take statements from us who were there.

There is no such thing as Customs and Border Patrol. The agency is known as Customs and Border Protection! Please get it right.
