By KFBB News Team

Though there’s no snow on the ground just yet, this weekend dozens of snowmobiles in Great Falls revved their engines for the first time this season. The Great Falls Snowmobile Club hosted the Fifth Annual Smokin’ Grass Drag Races at the KOA campgrounds. On modified and stock sleds, nearly 60 riders took part in this dangerous competition. Snowmobiles reached speeds up to 100 miles per hour on the 500-foot track. Terry Van Dam came from Missoula to participate. The petite 105-pound mom is one of the female pioneers of the sport a fierce competitor. The former world champ came out of retirement just this weekend. Some of these massive machines are made just for races like this, but for many of the other snowmobiles, this event allowed them to get ready for the months to come.
