Man Charged in Carjacking, Armed Robbery and High-Speed Pursuit

By KFBB News Team

One man accused of carjacking a woman, robbing a convenience store and then leading police on a high-sped pursuit now faces a long list of charges. It all started Saturday night (10/3) at the O'Haire Motor Inn in Great Falls. A woman called 911 and said a man stole her black Subaru Forester at gunpoint. Police say that man is John Spaulding, who has an extensive criminal record in Ohio and was recently staying at the Rescue Mission in Great Falls. As police were watching surveillance video from the hotel, a call came in that the Loaf and Jug on 38th Street and 2nd Avenue North was robbed. The clerk gave the armed gunman about $100 before he drove away in a black Subaru Forester. The car was spotted in Judith Basin County and deputies laid stop strips across the highway in its path. Court papers say Spaulding wrecked the car and after a short foot pursuit, was taken into custody. Now in a wheelchair, he faces two counts of robbery, two counts of theft and one count of disorderly conduct. His bail is set at $100,000.
