Some Special Olympics athletes from the Hi-Line are gearing up for a big weekend.

The Havre Blue Ponies headed from Havre Thursday morning through Great Falls, and on to Butte. There, they'll take on the best teams from across Montana for the annual special Olympics Montana Basketball Tournament.

Coaches and players for the Blue Ponies say they're excited about their prospects this year.

Coach Shaylee Lewis says, "Very competitive. They're in a normal bracket like any other tournament, and they compete really hard. Our team has improvised by leaps and bounds over the last three years that we've done it and just owe it to the coaches and work ethic."

Athlete Patrick Ahern says, "My personal favorite part is probably hanging with my family."

Opening ceremonies begin Thursday evening in Butte.

The games kick off Friday and run through Saturday.
