Plane Makes Emergency Landing on Interstate

By KFBB News Team

On Friday night it was an unusual scene on I-15 when a plane had to make an emergency landing right on the Interstate.

The pilot was flying his Cessna Skyhawk II plane from Shelby to Helena when a mechanical problem caused the engine to start sputtering until he ultimately lost all power. He contacted the Helena Airport shortly after 5:00 p.m. informing them of his plan to make an emergency landing on an area of the highway outside mile post 236 near Craig. The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office, Craig Volunteer Fire Department, and Montana Highway Patrol responded to the scene. No one was hurt and the experienced pilot is being credited for his quick thinking.

Mechanics responded to the scene to evaluate the plane, and an investigation into the exact cause of the mechanical problem is still underway.
