HELENA, Mont. - State and federal officials have increased the reward to $11,000 in a grizzly bear poaching case on the Rocky Mountain Front.

Mike Martin is a game warden captain with the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks. He says investigators are still looking for leads in the death of the large grizzly, dubbed Maximus.

The carcass of the bear was discovered Aug. 12 on a ranch west of Dupuyer. It had been dead for about a month.

The bear was 7 1/2 feet tall and weighed about 765 pounds when it was accidentally captured in 2007 as part of a population study. Officials estimated it weighed about 800 pounds when it died.
