44-year-old Air Force veteran and Montana Highway Patrol trooper Vernon C. Wise died of cancer Saturday at Peace Hospice. Today the state trooper was honored and remembered in a somber ceremony held at Central Assembly of God church on Central Avenue. The funeral was attended by family, friends and fellow troopers.

Wise joined the Montana highway patrol in 2004 after completing service at Malmstrom Air Force base here in Great Falls. He is described by those who knew him as a devoted husband, father and brother, and will be greatly missed by his loved ones.

"You were a good friend, my brother. I thank you for that. I'll miss him a lot,” said Wise’s uncle, Ivor.

Highland cemetery provides the grounds for Wise's final resting place.

He leaves behind his wife and five children.
