Concern over the state budget has prompted Governor Schweitzer to eliminate four Regional Development Officer (RDO) jobs from the Commerce Department in order to save money. Schweitzer has directed his administration to find saving measures wherever possible, and assures Montanans the move is a necessary precaution.

He explains, "This is what people refer to as the great recession, and while it hasn't hit Montana as hard as some other places, it's still decreasing those revenues that are flowing in. Every family in Montana has found ways of saving. Every family in Montana is putting a little money under the bed, some money in the coffee can, and some money in the bank, and your state government will run the same way."

The elimination of the positions will save approximately $380,000 this biennium. Governor Schweitzer has also directed a 35% reduction in out-of-state travel.
