Chris Berg of TJ's Lounge Looks to Rebuild After Fire

A fire is the last thing any business owner wants to experience. Tuesday's blaze at TJ’s Lounge caused major damage to what many consider a landmark community establishment. Now, the owners, with the help of others, try to recover and hopefully someday reopen.

Tuesday morning, the inside of TJ’s Lounge on 10th Avenue South was engulfed in flames. Great Falls Fire Rescue has concluded its investigation, believing the blaze began in the bar portion of the building.

They say although the outside sustained virtually no damage, electrical damage inside is so severe, that it can not reopen without significant repairs.

"We are trying to get TJ’s sealed-off so we can open the restaurant," said Chris Berg of TJ’s Lounge.

Berg's parents, Paula and Tim Barbour bought TJ's in the mid 1970's. Several years later, they acquired Godfather's. Now, Berg reflects on the 35 years of memories, and hopes that after some hard work, its customers can make new ones.

"It's been in the family for so long, and such a big part of the community.”

Luckily, nobody was injured in the blaze. Berg says other business owners have offered assistance in the form of glassware, furniture, and even help cleaning up.

"People from Emerald City, The Sting, and other places have been so generous.”


Berg speculates that the blaze might have started from a cigarette, but that has not been confirmed by Great Falls Fire Rescue.

She adds that the insurance company is currently assessing damages.

tjs is a great place for birthday parties for kids, or adults. I cant wait for the opening, its a great place to hang out for teenagers.

I hope to see TJ's up and running soon. This establishment is one of the few iconic venues left in Great Falls.
