UGF Rallies To Help Freshman Fire Victim

Friday night's fire in Black Eagle destroyed nearly every personal belonging of one area college student. Now, the faculty, staff, and students at the University of Great Falls are helping her rebuild from scratch, while giving her the gift of hope.

Shortly after the start of the fire Briann Knight received a call from her mother that she will never forget.

"She said your room is in flames, said Knight. “The house is on fire."

As a UGF freshman cheerleader, Briann was at the Lady Argos basketball game, while all of her possessions were being destroyed in the blaze.

"All of my pictures are gone, my school books, my laptop."

After learning of the devastation, UGF’s faculty and its students acted fast, providing her with a dorm room, a meal plan, clothing, and a new laptop.

"The most important part is how compassionate everyone his here,” said Twila Croft of UGF. “We want to make sure she is ok after having a huge part of her life taken away."

"it's great that she is moving into the dorm and that UGF is helping her so she can enjoy her freshman year in college," said freshman Jessica Muzzall.

"I just can't believe what she's been going through," said freshman Nikki Petersen.

As Briann and her six-year-old brother Jack check-out the new dorm room, she reflects on the generosity of others.

"It's mind-blowing how people have helped. I am so grateful and so surprised. it's like an extra family that you didn't know you had."
