Electric City Power Faces $23,260 Penalty

By KFBB News Team

A state law required Electric city power to have at least 5% of its power portfolio come from renewable energy credits. Electric City Power had filed for a waiver, but the waiver was denied.

The Public Service Commission ruled last week that Electric City Power would face a penalty of $23,260 for failing to comply to with renewable energy standards.

Now Electric City Power is waiting for the PSC's official final report, before deciding how to handle the penalty.

The city will be in compliance for 2009, using both purchased renewable energy credits, and the energy produced by the sewage treatment plant.

However, critics are questioning whether the city has the time and resources to manage the electric utility.
