RNC Chairman Requests Baucus Ethics Investigation

The Republican National Committee chairman is calling for a Senate Ethics Committee investigation, after Senator Max Baucus nominated his girlfriend for a position as Montana's U.S. Attorney.

A spokesman for Senator Baucus says Baucus submitted resumes of six people, including his girlfriend Melodee Hanes.

In a statement released yesterday, Baucus said he appointed an independent, third-party reviewer to narrow the list. The Associated Press is reporting that person was Dana Christensen, a Montana lawyer who's contributed $3400 to Baucus's political campaigns.

Hanes later withdrew her name, because she and Baucus wanted to live together in Washington.
