Two Teenagers from Great Falls Killed in Crash Near Post Falls, Idaho

Friends, family and faculty are in shock, after a car crash claims the life of two local Great Falls high school students. The two teens were killed in a four vehicle crash on Interstate 90 near Post Falls on Monday Night.

The victims have been identified as 16-year old Destiney Moore and 17-year old Michael Martinez. The two were boyfriend and girlfriend and attended Great Falls High together. They were making their way to Washington so that Destiney could undergo dialysis. Her best friend tells News Channel Five it was a trip she made monthly because of kidney failure. And Idaho State Police say this trip was crucial. Destiney was going to potentially be matched up with a living donor for a new kidney.

Mitchell Smithson, a Great Falls High student and friend of Martinez says, "They were the kinds of friends that would always be there for you."

Fred Anderson, Principal at Great Falls High tells News Channel Five, "I think every time something like this happens, it tears a little piece of your soul out and the closer your are to the students and the school, the harder it is."

Destiney Moore, a freshman and Michael Martinez, a senior and member of the school's soccer team were killed after police say Destiney's mother Tracy Moore, lost control of her SUV and crossed into oncoming traffic. The SUV was hit by a car and a pickup truck with a snow plow. Destiney Moore died at the scene of the crash, while Martinez later died at the hospital.

Now, friends and faculty are mourning the loss of these two teens, who lives were tragically cut short. Smithson notes, "I heard from one of my friends almost right when I woke up so from that moment, I didn't know how to react, I was shocked."

Nicole Wagner, Destiney's best friend says, "Destiney Moore and Mike are gone. And I really miss them cause I've known them since 6th grade. At least Destiny. I just met Mike this year or last year and she was my best friend and I just wish she was here with me right now. "

And students say getting through a day of classes and homework will be difficult as they try and cope with the loss of their two friends. When asked how students are coping, Smithson says, "Theyre coping with it and others cope with it by crying. Some try to hold it in, I'm trying my best to hold it in."

Principal Anderson notes, "It's one of those things that you never expect to happen and when it happens, it really impacts the entire school."

Destiney Moore's mother, along with a five year old child that was in the car at the time of crash are listed in satisfactory condition at a Washington hospital as of Wednesday evening.

The Great Falls School District says counselors have been made available to anyone who needs someone to talk to, and that includes students, teachers and even parents.

I didn't know these two very well, but I knew of them. Everyone loved them and I didn't know of one person who didn't. This has made an impact on the whole city and has made us stronger. My prayers go to them and their families. Rest in peace Mic and Des.

I knew Destiney but not well enough.She was so sweet.Destiney was in two of my classes. Gym and English. She was always trying her best.I can't imagine what her sister is going through. When you are close to somebody. And you lose them. You feel confused,angry,and frustated. Most of all you wonder why it happened. We will miss you, Destiney.
