MT Grain Growers Start Food Bank Donation Program

MT Grain Growers Start Food Bank Donation Program

By KFBB News Team

A new donation project is connecting Montana grain producers with state food banks.

Tuesday, the first donation was made to "Our Neighbor's Daily Bread," a new program that allows Montana farmers to donate grain to families receiving food bank assistance.

Two pallets were loaded into a food bank network truck. The network serves partner agencies and food banks across the state.

"Typically they'll take that flour and offer it to their clients directly,” explained James Dodge of the Montana Food Bank Network. “But what's really exciting about the program is if it really generates enough flour then we can look at larger-scale projects, and maybe contacting some bakers in the state and making bread or any other wheat product."

The program is run by the Montana Grain Growers Association with management assistance from the non-profit Montana Grains Foundation.

Grain elevators throughout the state are working with producers who wish to donate to the project.
