More Earthquakes Reported at Yellowstone National Park

By KFBB News Team

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. - Geologists report three more minor earthquakes rattled Yellowstone National Park as part of swarm that began Sunday.

The Wyoming State Geological Survey says the Wednesday earthquakes measured magnitudes 2.9, 3.6 and 3.7. There were no reports of injuries or damages.

Yellowstone National Park spokesman Al Nash says people reported feeling the Wednesday quakes at the park locations of Old Faithful, Canyon and Mammoth and in the Montana towns of West Yellowstone and Gardiner.

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that the swarm of earthquakes are probably the result of slip on pre-existing faults rather than underground movement of magma.

It says the swarm has included 901 earthquakes, ranging from magnitude 0.5 to 3.8.

The Yellowstone Caldera WILL erupt at an EE8 level or super volcanic type eruption at some point. Even though we are more than 40,000 years over due for an eruption there is a very small chance of seeing this type of eruption in our lifetime never the less we must be prepared just in case.

But, don't panic..If a caldera event were to ever happen, Us Montanans will be the lucky ones as in we would go first, not have to suffer from starvation from the lack of food from AG going downhill do to the sun being blocked out...Really though..It's not the 2012 doomsday everyone is looking for..Earthquake swarms are normal in Yellowstone.

Um, yes earthquakes are a sign of a Volcano, however, the size and location of the epicenter gives the Geologists a better understanding of where the earthquakes are centered, Not only is Yellowstone located above a volcano it is also located between 2 fault lines. Geologists also report that if a volcano in yellowstone were to happen in our lifetime, It would probably take form in a hydrothermal event or A eruption possibly smaller then Helens to the size of pinatubo ..Not a caldera event
