BILLINGS, Mont. - Two football players from a rural Montana high school are denying felony assault charges and have asked for a jury trial over allegations that they struck a younger player with a piece of wood in a locker room assault.

The two sophomores from Huntley Project High School were arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Susan Watters.

Prosecutors allege one of the defendants, a 15-year-old, held a freshman teammate while a the other defendant, 16, struck him with the piece of wood. Court documents say the alleged assault in November caused "bodily injury" to the 15-year-old victim.

The defendants' names are not being used by The Associated Press because of their youth.

No trial date has been set.
