Inmates at Great Falls Pre-release Learn Culinary Skills

Inmate workers at the Great Falls Pre-release are taking a cooking lesson from an award-winning chef.

Chef Harold Goode, owner of Goode’s Q and Bayou Grill, offered his expertise to longer-term inmate workers at the Great Falls Pre-release.

The group learned sanitation methods, food safety and knife skills. Many inmates work in the food service industry during and after their release, these skills could give them an edge in the workplace.

"I would love to have people coming in with basic knowledge of cooking,” said Goode. “And if some are really willing to go out there and work hard and learn the profession the right way...It'll be an asset to them and an asset to us.”

Chef Goode is known in great falls for his Cajun dishes, and with his help, the group prepared lunch for more than 100 residents and staff members.

Pre-release administrators hope to bring in more guest speakers and teachers in the future.
