Interim Committee Meets to Discuss DUI Laws

It's a process of questions, answers, statistics, and more, as the Law and Justice Interim Committee tries to find a solution to the states DUI problem.

Today the committee listened to experts on DUI penalties, economics, and law enforcement, looking for ideas and procedures to put in future legislation.

The Honorable Mary Jane Knisely presented the committee with her experience with DUI Court, an idea she hopes will spread state wide.

Dr. Steve Seniger's studies focused more on the economic side of DUIs, and suggested that the committee look at the stiffer DUI penalties in other states.

And although new DUI laws won't be presented until next year, Senator Laslovich believes it's an issue both sides will be able to agree on.

The committe will meet again tomorrow morning to discuss other state issues, but they could begin drafting DUI legislation for next year's session as early as tomorrow afternoon.
