Improvements on Tap for City County Health Dept. Dental Clinic

February may be Children's Dental Health Month, but the City County Health Department will soon make improvements for all dental patients.

Last month, Cascade County Commissioners approved the use of nearly $500,000 in grant matching funds for dental clinic improvements at the Health Department.

The grants, paid for by stimulus funds, will allow the clinic to add a third dental suite, hire a dental hygienist and buy a digital panoramic x-ray machine.

"We're also going to be adding electronic medical records. We haven't been able to do that, we've had hard copy dental records,” explained Kate Marone of the City County Health Department. “And so with the digital x-rays and electronic records, we're going to be able to give our patients a more immediate kind of care that you can get in a lot of other dental offices."

Right now, dentists at the clinic can only perform major procedures like root canals and fillings to a limited number of patients.

Administrators say appointments are hard to get, but there is a great need for affordable dental care in our area.
