71 mushers were on the trail in the 2010 Iditarod, which officially started last Sunday in Willow, Alaska. Yet by Thursday, that number had dropped to 65 as mushers began to drop out. This year's race included five mushers from Montana, although one Montana man dropped out on Tuesday.

The Iditarod covers 1,000 miles of Alaskan terrain with mushers battling weather, trail conditions and other competitors all hoping to take home the first prize of $561,000. The race could last through the beginning of next week depending on how the competitors perform.

Montana's mushers include Chris Adkins from Sand Coulee, Jason Barron from Lincoln, Kirk Barnum and Cindy Gallea from Seeley Lake, and Celeste Davis from Deer Lodge.

Kirk Barnum dropped out on Tuesday, stating that his dogs were just too tired and he didn't want to hurt them.

Saturday morning Montana musher rankings out of all mushers:
- Jason Barron of Lincoln moves down from 18th to 21st place
- Cindy Gallea of Seeley Lake moves down from 40th to 42nd place
- Chris Adkins of Sand Coulee moves down from 53rd to 56th place
- Celeste Davis of Deer Lodge moves up from 62nd place to 59th place
