One of Congressman Denny Rehberg's top staff members now faces poaching charges.
Randy Vogel was named Rehberg's state director on 3/1/10, and two days later, the 57-year-old aide was cited by a state game warden for allegedly poaching a young bull elk in Madison County out of season in November.
Vogel is due to appear in court next week on four charges:
1) Harvesting a spike bull elk during closed season
2) Abandoning the carcass
3) Killing multiple elk without authorization
4) Obstruction of a peace officer.
A spokesman for Rehberg says the congressman was not aware of the allegations until after Vogel's appointment.
Vogel has asked for and been granted an indefinite leave without pay.
