New Great Falls City Attorney Dealing With Several Ongoing, Complex Issues

By KFBB News Team

James Santoro is the newest member of the Great Falls city staff. As the new city attorney, he is already dealing with several ongoing, complex issues.

It is not his first time working in the treasure state. Santoro has worked in the private and public sector as an attorney in Montana and Washington for almost 16 years. Santoro was appointed as the new city attorney in February.

Before working in Great Falls, he served as the chief legal counsel for the Governor's office. Before that, he was a Special Assistant Attorney General with the Department of Labor and Industry in Helena.

Santoro says after only a few weeks on the job, he is already working on several ongoing issues in Great Falls, including documents regarding the Highwood generating station, the debate over Electric City Power, issues with public works and the debate over medical marijuana in the Electric City. But Santoro says he is up for the challenge.

He says, "As we take each issue, we have to roll up our sleeves, if you will, work with our staff and start one by one. We have a complex situation here so I know what we're going to be working through each of them. And they're here, they're not going to go anywhere. We're going to attack them and represent the city the best that I know I can."

Santoro is working with several city departments when it comes to the issue of medical marijuana in the Electric City. Right now, there are two medical marijuana stores looking to set up shop within city limits, but first, Santoro and his staff must determine where these providers can operate within city limits and under what conditions.
